Sometimes an artist creates something so beautifully simple that it takes your breath away…. literally. (hack line – couldn’t help it) Artist Jason de Caires Taylor creates life-size cement sculptures of people and submerges them into the waters of South America. As time passes the sculptures become part of the underwater landscape and slowly become artificial reefs ripe with marine life. The process of experiencing artwork out of a traditional gallery and underwater is described with intimately vivid detail on his site. Absolutely incredible execution merging art, life and the wild seas into an ever-evolving textured aesthetic that will hopefully stand the test of time. Although, I wouldn’t hold our breath. (Dammit! I did it again) Wow.

There seems to be a trend towards not confronting our problems. People are, more and more, avoiding conflict and becoming passive aggressive in how they deal with it. Fortunately, sometimes that passive aggressive way of dealing with problems is funny, and sometimes those funny passive aggressive notes people like to leave behind get photographed. Which is your favorite passive aggressive note.

While browsing around some of my favorite cooking blogs a couple of weeks ago, I came across the most outstanding image: an Oreo-stuffed chocolate chip cookie. Could it be possible? My 2 favorite cookies sandwiched together to make 1 glorious confection? It is possible indeed. I know this because I tried it myself last Sunday. (And yes, they taste just as delicious as they look.) I used Picky Palate’s simple recipe and was finished with the entire process within an hour. Note: These are serious cookies! I like to refer to them as the “1-and-done” cookies because 1 is about all you can eat at a time. If you love cookies just as much as I do, then follow along below to create your own Cookie-Monster treat.

The United States, locked in the kind of twilight disconnect that grips dying empires, is a country entranced by illusions. It spends its emotional and intellectual energy on the trivial and the absurd. It is captivated by the hollow stagecraft of celebrity culture as the walls crumble. This celebrity culture giddily licenses a dark voyeurism into other people’s humiliation, pain, weakness and betrayal. Day after day, one lurid saga after another, whether it is Michael Jackson, Britney Spears or John Edwards, enthralls the country … despite bank collapses, wars, mounting poverty or the criminality of its financial class.

People who drink coffee know how much it sucks when you grab a cup from your local coffee shop, take sip, and recoil from the burning hot liquid you need so badly to start your day. If only there was a way to cool your coffee down quickly, without sticking ice cubes in it, or leaving the lid off for 5 minutes before you can take another sip… Fortunately, two guys named Dave have created a solution to this common problem with a product called Coffee Joulies.

It’s a strange feeling what i felt while crossing the west bank, the claustrophobic separation wall made me feel like into a cage, i felt stupid to be there as a tourist, while thousands of people actually live in that area, facing everyday problems that i simply touched on. So i simply feel like showing you some of the things i saw, in that horrible separation structure. Nothing lasts forever…

Bruce Springsteen – Atlanta, GA 2007

Danny Clinch is a photographer and film director who was born in Toms River, New Jersey in 1964. He graduated from Toms River High School East in 1982 and after attending Ocean County College, he attendedThe New England School of Photography, a two-year institution located in Boston, MA.[1]

Clinch began his career as an intern for Annie Leibovitz, and went on to photograph the likes of Johnny Cash, Bruce Springsteen, Tupac, The Smashing Pumpkins, Blind Melon, Dave Matthews Band, Phish, andBjörk. His “unobtrusive” style, according to his bio, is one of the features that Clinch’s photographic subjects enjoy.[2]

Clinch’s photographs have appeared in publications throughout the world, including Vanity Fair, Spin, The New Yorker, The New York Times,[3] and Rolling Stone. Clinch has published two books: Discovery Inn in 1998, and The Iron Bird Flies in 2000.

In 2003, Clinch founded the film company Three on the Tree Productions, based in New York City. He is also among the 43 noted photographers invited to donate a print to “FOCUS: an auction of the finest photography to benefit City Harvest….” The fund-raiser on September 18, 2008 supports City Harvest, a food collection bank in New York City. [1]

Clinch directed a concert DVD documenting Pearl Jam’s 2006 tour of Italy entitled Immagine in Cornice which was released in 2007. He also directed the DVD portion of Springsteen’s Devils & Dust DVD box-set.

His photography is simply beautiful - who doesn’t love low key monotone photography anyway?
